Maritime Archaeology & Wreck Research for Hellships
This topic is dedicated to the research, location, identification, documentation, and preservation of Hellship wrecks and other maritime sites associated with Allied prisoners of war during World War II.
Topics may include historical position analysis, wartime charts and navigation records, submarine and aircraft action reports, bathymetry, side-scan sonar, magnetometer surveys, ROV operations, technical diving, underwater photography, wreck identification, and maritime archaeological methods.
Members are encouraged to share original research, archival evidence, maps, survey results, photographs, and technical expertise. Because wreck locations may represent war graves or protected archaeological sites, precise coordinates and sensitive information should be shared responsibly and with respect for the men who died aboard these vessels.
The goal of this topic is to bring historians, researchers, maritime archaeologists, divers, hydrographers, technical specialists, and POW families together to help locate and document these important sites while maintaining appropriate historical, archaeological, and ethical standards.
